Help For Heroes Fund Raising

The concept for Heroes Haven Swanage was born in April 2010, and initial fund raising began with a sponsored walk on part of the coastal path, starting in Swanage, of course.
Before long the organisation became a Registered Charity, number 1139553.

Numerous other events have taken place since then, including a rock concert, an outdoor classical concert with fireworks, cream teas and a disco to name but a few. Unique to Swanage were two mannequins dressed in military uniform, racing against each other down Swanage High Street donations funding forward movement.

The citizens of Purbeck and visitors to the area have been wonderful in their support of the charity. They have raised money in their own right, sponsored individuals and attended fundraising events. A number of slightly interesting individuals have been sponsored to take part in various challenges, including having their heads shaved, marathons, half marathons, a Tough Mudder event, and a cycle ride.

The charity is run purely by volunteers, all monies raised go directly to the charity. This is perhaps, one of the reasons the public have been so supportive.

Grants were also secured from The Talbot Village Trust, The British Legion, Help for Heroes and The Garfield Weston Fondation, all helping to go towards the cost of the lodge and it's beautiful grounds.

In 2012 Heroes Haven Swanage was 'Charity of The Year' at the local Sainbury's branch and the Isle of Purbeck Golf Club.
In 2013 it was, jointly with The Not Forgotten Society, The Royal Marines at Poole charity for the year.

Help For Heroes Fund Raising

Although the target total for the construction of the cabin and the specialist landscaping of the gardens has been met, fund raising continues. There are maintenance costs as well as development of the lodge and its facilities driven by guest feedback.
It is also important to to keep up the profile of Heroes Haven Swanage within Purbeck and with military charities and organisations that deal with seriously injured military personnel.
